Winter Preparations
with
Eric Talley
Talking about preparing your hives for winter in the SPRING?? What?? Actually, this is the perfect time. Most beekeepers don't think about winter preparations until it's too late in the season to affect some things that could help your bees make it through the winter. It's great to cover this subject early in the year as this allows beekeepers to make decisions and plans in time to really help the bees. Eric Talley will be telling us what we need to know so our bees can have the best, coziest winter ever!
If you plan to eat, please sign up for the potluck. Thank you!! Sign up Here.
Eric Talley is a NCSBA Master Craftsman Beekeeper who lives and raises bees in the Hubert/Swansboro area of Onslow County. He started beekeeping in 1973 as a Future Farmers of America project in high school. Four years later when he joined the US Marine Corps, Eric gave his bees away and didn’t have bees for the next 30 years. Seasons change and he is now a queen breeder using VSH stock. Eric also raises VSH open mated queens during the summer for sale to local beekeepers. He is the recipient of the American Beekeeper Federation's 2021 Practical Beekeeping Idea Award, and the NCSBA 2023 Beekeeper of the Year. Eric currently serves as the NCSBA MBP Coordinator.
